Phyllis A. Taylor is a Philadelphia born artist, who took her first drawing classes at Fleicher Memorial Art School. In high school she shortened her signature to Pannet, a combination of her initials and her middle name. Phyllis was trained in figurative drawing and painting at Tyler School of Art in Philadelphia and received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Illustration from The Philadelphia College of Art. Phyllis also studied Art Management at The American University in Washington, DC and worked in the graphics and photography department and as an artist for USA Today in Roslyn, VA.
Phyllis A. Taylor’s illustrations have been published in Air Jamaica Magazine, “How to Plan a Conservation Education Program” by the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service, The Sunday Gleaner (a Jamaican newspaper), Canterbury Bridge & Other Poems of Jamaica by Paul Muse, and she has a portrait caricature (John Garvey) displayed in The Palm Restaurant in Washington, DC.
Phyllis has exhibited her portraits in the Ethnic Heritage Festivals, the Rockville Arts Place, The Strathmore Arts Center, Montpelier Cultural Art Center, for Alpha Kappa Alpha's Black Women Artists, Delta Sigma Theta's Emerging Black Women Artists. She had a month long showing, at Borders' Books in Bowie, MD and The MD National Capitol Parks & Planning Commission sponsored a two month exhibit in the Learning Lane Gallery of the Wayne K. Curry Sports & Learning Complex featuring her Floorcloths along with a retrospective of her portraits. The Prince George’s County Art Council also showcased her portraits in their offices.
Having recently relocated to Georgia, Phyllis now makes her home in Stone Mountain and has exhibited her portraits at the Art Station, The Callenwolde Fine Arts Center and the Lime Light Gallery
